﴾41﴿ Then how will it be when We bring from every nation a witness, and We bring you [O Prophet] as a witness over these [people]
﴾42﴿ That Day, those who disbelieved and disobeyed the Messenger will wish that the earth were leveled over them, and they will not be able to hide any word from Allah.
﴾43﴿ O you who believe, do not approach prayer while you are intoxicated until you know what you are saying, nor in a state of major impurity — unless you are traveling — until you have bathed. But if you are ill or on a journey, or one of you comes from relieving himself, or you have touched women, and you do not find water, then perform tayammum with clean earth and wipe your faces and hands with it. Indeed, Allah is Ever-Pardoning, Most Forgiving.

[41] This is a warning about the Day of the Hereafter, which you cannot deny, because a witness will be present against you. The meaning of this testimony is that the Prophet will bear witness to the deeds that were done in front of him during his lifetime. This is as mentioned in the hadith narrated by Ibn Kathir, who also refuted the hadith regarding the presentation of all deeds to the Prophet (after his passing).
[42] This too is a warning about the Hereafter. (كَفَرُوا) refers to those who committed shirk, and (عَصَوُا) refers to those who opposed the way of the Prophet — May Allah bless him and give him peace — and these are the innovators (in religion).
[43] The connection of this verse is that, in order to accept the divine commandments, wakefulness and purity are necessary. For this reason, praying while intoxicated or impure is forbidden. (إِلَّا عَابِرِي سَبِيلٍ) means that if you are a traveler or in a state of major impurity and cannot find water, then perform tayammum. The second point is that entering the mosque in a state of major impurity is not allowed, but if you must pass through it due to necessity, it is permitted. (صَعِيدًا) refers to the earth, whether soil or sand. (حَتَّى تَعْلَمُوا مَا تَقُولُونَ) implies the definition of intoxication — that it is when a person does not understand what he is saying. In this context, ignorance is also included.
