﴾36﴿ Wa'budul laaha wa laa tushrikoo bihee shai'anw wa bilwaalidaini ihsaananw wa bizil qurbaa walyataamaa walmasaakeeni waljaari zilqurbaa waljaaril junubi wassaahibi biljambi wabnis sabeeli wa maa malakat aimaanukum; innal laaha laa yuhibbu man kaana mukhtaalan fakhooraa

﴾38﴿ Wallazeena yunfiqoona amwaalahum ri'aaa'an naasi wa laa yu'minoona billaahi wa laa bil Yawmil Aakhir; wa mai yakunish shaitaanu lahoo qareenan fasaaa'a qareenaa

﴾40﴿ Innal laaha laa yazlimu misqaala zarratinw wa in taku hasanatany yudaa'ifhaa wa yu'ti mil ladunhu ajran 'azeemaa

﴾36﴿ And worship Allah, and do not associate anything with Him. And be good to your parents, and to relatives, and to orphans, and to the needy, and to the near neighbor and the distant neighbor, and to the close companion, and the traveler, and to those whom your right hands possess (slaves). Surely, Allah does not love anyone who is arrogant, boastful.
﴾37﴿ They are those who are stingy and command others to be stingy, and they conceal what Allah Most High has given them from His bounty.
And We have prepared for the disbelievers a humiliating punishment.
﴾38﴿ And they are those who spend their wealth to be seen by people, and do not believe in Allah Most High nor in the Last Day.
And whoever takes Satan as a companion—then what a terrible companion is Satan.
﴾39﴿ And what harm would there have been for them if they had believed in Allah Most High and the Last Day, and spent from what Allah Most High had given them?
And Allah Most High is All-Knowing of them.
﴾40﴿ Indeed, Allah does not wrong [anyone] even to the weight of an atom, and if there is a good deed, He multiplies it and gives from Himself a great reward.

[36] This sixteenth ruling expresses the right of Allah Most High, which is monotheism (tawheed) and the rejection of every kind of polytheism.
It also outlines the rights of fellow human beings in nine categories.
From the end of this verse, the second section of this part begins, continuing up to verse 43.
In this, there is a warning directed toward the hypocrites, and it mentions six of their evils.
(وَالصَّاحِبِ بِالْجَنْبِ) – This refers to a travel companion or a spouse.
(مُخْتَالًا) – This is someone who considers themselves superior to others.
(فَخُورًا) – This is someone who boasts of themselves in order to belittle others.
[37] This warning is for the hypocrites.
Their stinginess with wealth is that they do not pay zakat and do not spend in jihad.
And their stinginess with knowledge is that they do not convey knowledge.
[38] In this verse as well, there is a warning for the hypocrites.
Previously, it was stated that they are stingy, meaning they do not spend for the sake of Allah Most High.
Here, it is stated that they do spend, but it is for show (riya), and they do so under the encouragement of Satan.
[39] This is a call for the improvement of character and for proper spending (charity).
[40] This is a glad tidings for those who follow [the truth]. (ذَرَّةٍ) refers to a fine red ant, or the particles seen in the sunlight. (لَا يَظْلِمُ) means that Allah does not reduce even a particle’s worth from a good deed, nor does He add even a particle’s weight to an evil deed. (مِنْ لَدُنْهُ) indicates the reward and recompense which Allah grants by His grace without any corresponding action.
