﴾118﴿ Allah cursed him, and he (Satan) said: “Surely I will take from Your servants a fixed portion.”
﴾119﴿ And surely I will lead them astray, and surely I will fill them with false hopes, and surely I will command them so they will slit the ears of livestock, and surely I will command them so they will alter the creation of Allah. And whoever takes Satan as a friend (in obedience) instead of Allah has surely suffered a clear loss.
﴾120﴿ Satan promises them and fills them with hopes, but Satan does not promise them anything except deception.
﴾121﴿ These are the ones whose abode is Hell, and they will find no way to escape from it.
﴾122﴿ And those who believed and acted according to the way of the Prophet (May Allah bless him and give him peace), We will soon admit them into Gardens beneath which rivers flow, to abide therein forever — a promise of Allah, in truth. And who is truer in speech than Allah

[118] Taking a share from the servants means making someone commit shirk, or those who give polytheistic names, or those who follow him (Satan).
[119] “(And surely I will fill them with false hopes)” means he makes sins appear as acts of obedience to them — and that is innovation (bid‘ah). “(the ears of livestock)” refers to those animals that they declare forbidden upon themselves, and they cut their ears as a mark — this is called baḥīrah. “(the creation of Allah)” means the physical form created by Allah, such as the human shape, which they alter without any legal justification: a man makes himself resemble a woman, and a woman makes herself resemble a man; shaving the beard and shortening it beyond a fist-length are also included. Another meaning of “the creation of Allah” is the religion of Allah, which is tawḥīd and sunnah, and they alter it into shirk and bid‘ah.
[120] The promise is that he gives them hope of Paradise through sin, and makes them long for a long life.
[121] This is a warning of punishment in the Hereafter. (Maḥīṣan) refers to a place of escape or a refuge to take shelter in.
[122] This is a glad tiding of the Hereafter. (Waʿda Allāhi ḥaqqan) — the verb is implied and hidden; it means: “Allah has promised — a true promise — truly.”
