يَمْحَقُ اللَّهُ الرِّبَا وَيُرْبِي الصَّدَقَاتِ وَاللَّهُ لَا يُحِبُّ كُلَّ كَفَّارٍ أَثِيمٍ ﴿۲۷۶﴾ إِنَّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ وَأَقَامُوا الصَّلَاةَ وَآتَوُا الزَّكَاةَ لَهُمْ أَجْرُهُمْ عِنْدَ رَبِّهِمْ وَلَا خَوْفٌ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا هُمْ يَحْزَنُونَ ﴿۲۷۷﴾ يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَذَرُوا مَا بَقِيَ مِنَ الرِّبَا إِنْ كُنْتُمْ مُؤْمِنِينَ ﴿۲۷۸﴾ فَإِنْ لَمْ تَفْعَلُوا فَأْذَنُوا بِحَرْبٍ مِنَ اللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ وَإِنْ تُبْتُمْ فَلَكُمْ رُءُوسُ أَمْوَالِكُمْ لَا تَظْلِمُونَ وَلَا تُظْلَمُونَ ﴿۲۷۹﴾
﴾276﴿ Yamhaqul laahur ribaa wa yurbis sadaqaat; wallaahu laa yuhibbu kulla kaffaarin aseem
﴾277﴿ Innal lazeena aamanoo wa amilus saalihaati wa aqaamus salaata wa aatawuz zakaata lahum ajruhum 'inda rabbihim wa laa khawfun 'alaihim wa laa hum yahzanoon
﴾278﴿ Yaaa ayyuhal lazeena aamanut taqul laaha wa zaroo maa baqiya minar ribaaa in kuntum mu'mineen
﴾279﴿ Fail lam taf'aloo faazanoo biharbim minal laahi wa Rasoolihee wa in tubtum falakum ru'oosu amwaalikum laa tazlimoona wa laa tuzlamoon
﴾276﴿ Allah destroys the (blessing of) wealth gained through usury, and increases the wealth given in charity. And Allah does not love every disbeliever (who deems usury lawful) and persistent sinner who engages in usury.
﴾277﴿ Indeed, those who believe and act according to the way of the Prophet (May Allah bless him and give him peace), and establish prayer and give zakat — for them is their reward with their Lord. There shall be no fear upon them, nor shall they grieve.
﴾278﴿ O you who have believed, fear Allah and give up what remains of usury, if you are truly believers.

[276] In this verse, the difference between usury and charity is mentioned to encourage people to avoid usury and to promote giving charity.
“Yamḥaq” — there is no blessing in wealth gained through usury, and any wealth mixed with it also becomes devoid of blessing. This is supported by verse 39 of Surah Ar-Rum.
“Kaffār” refers to the one who considers usury lawful.
“Athīm” refers to the Muslim who engages in usury despite knowing it is forbidden.
[277] In this, there is glad tidings for the one who refrains from usury – and performs four actions for success and attaining Paradise.
[278] In this verse, the address is specifically to the believers, to protect them from all forms of usury. The meaning of “give up what remains” is that whoever still has any amount of usury due to them must relinquish it. Just as in Islamic countries where interest-based systems exist, it is necessary to abandon them. This indicates that refraining from usury is a requirement of true faith.
[279] The meaning of “war” here is that such people become enemies of Allah and His Messenger, and it becomes necessary for Muslims to fight against them. The phrase “do not oppress, and you shall not be oppressed” indicates that in Islam, one must protect oneself from both being an oppressor and being oppressed. Here, the first form of oppression refers to demanding usury, and the second refers to refusing to return the principal amount.
