لَهُمْ دَارُ السَّلَامِ عِنْدَ رَبِّهِمْ وَهُوَ وَلِيُّهُمْ بِمَا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ ﴿۱۲۷﴾ وَيَوْمَ يَحْشُرُهُمْ جَمِيعًا يَا مَعْشَرَ الْجِنِّ قَدِ اسْتَكْثَرْتُمْ مِنَ الْإِنْسِ وَقَالَ أَوْلِيَاؤُهُمْ مِنَ الْإِنْسِ رَبَّنَا اسْتَمْتَعَ بَعْضُنَا بِبَعْضٍ وَبَلَغْنَا أَجَلَنَا الَّذِي أَجَّلْتَ لَنَا قَالَ النَّارُ مَثْوَاكُمْ خَالِدِينَ فِيهَا إِلَّا مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ حَكِيمٌ عَلِيمٌ ﴿۱۲۸﴾ وَكَذَلِكَ نُوَلِّي بَعْضَ الظَّالِمِينَ بَعْضًا بِمَا كَانُوا يَكْسِبُونَ ﴿۱۲۹﴾
﴾127﴿ Lahum daarus salaami 'inda Rabbihim wa huwa waliyyuhum bimaa kaanoo ya'maloon
﴾128﴿ Wa yawma yahshuruhum jamee'ai yaa ma'sharal jinni qadistaksartum minal insi wa qaala awliyaa'uhum minal insi Rabbanas tamta'a ba'dunaa biba'dinw wa balaghnaaa ajalannal lazeee ajjalta lanaa; qaalan Naaru maswaakum khaalideena feehaaa illaa maa shaaa'allaah; inna Rabbaka Hakeemun 'Aleem
﴾129﴿ Wa kazaalika nuwallee ba'daz zaalimeena ba'dam bimaa kaanoo yaksiboon
﴾127﴿ For them is the home of peace with their Lord, and He is their protector because of what they used to do.
﴾128﴿ And [remember] the Day when He gathers them all together (and says): “O assembly of jinn, you have indeed misled many of mankind.” And their human associates will say, “Our Lord, some of us benefited from others, and we have reached our term which You appointed for us.” He will say, “The Fire is your dwelling place; you will abide therein forever, except as Allah wills.” Surely, your Lord is Wise and All-Knowing.
﴾129﴿ And thus We join some of the wrongdoers with others because of what they used to do.
[127] This verse is a glad tiding of the Hereafter for those who follow the guidance.
(دَارُ السَّلَامِ) – Ḥasan said: “Salām” is one of the names of Allah the Exalted. Zajjāj said it is a verbal noun meaning “peace” or “safety from all harms.” Others interpret it as referring to greetings—i.e., a place filled with peace and greetings from all sides.
(عِنْدَ رَبِّهِمْ) – This points to the fact that the detailed knowledge of the blessings of that abode lies only with Allah the Exalted.
(وَلِيُّهُمْ) – Walī means protector, helper, and supporter, as mentioned by Ibn Kathīr. He is the one who manages their affairs and does not entrust them to anyone else.
[128] This verse is a warning of the Hereafter for the deniers.
(اسْتَمْتَعَ بَعْضُنَا بِبَعْضٍ) – “Some of us benefited from others” – this is an admission of guilt. The major jinn would protect humans from the minor jinn in the wilderness. Likewise, some humans would use jinn to perform certain tasks. Also, when someone was possessed by a jinn, people would pay money or give goods based on deception and lies, supposedly to treat or please the jinn—this was how humans benefited from the jinn.
On the other hand, humans made vows (nadhar) in the name of jinn and feared them—this was how jinn benefited from humans. Shaykh al-Islām (Ibn Taymiyyah) mentions various forms of this mutual exploitation in his tafsir.
(إِلَّا مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ) – This refers to punishments in addition to the fire, such as freezing cold (zamharīr), or deprivation from food and drink, or it may refer to sinful believers who are meant to be punished only temporarily and then saved by Allah’s will.
[129] This is the sixth stage of propagation, which is the final stage—meaning the truth-seeker reaches the understanding that oppression is equivalent to polytheism, and all the people of innovation unite against him and sever their ties with him.
Another meaning of the verse is that Allah appoints other oppressors as rulers over the oppressors, and this is a worldly punishment.
According to the first interpretation, "nuwallī" means friendship or alliance—i.e., the oppressors who are followers of falsehood support each other against the righteous.
According to the second interpretation, nuwallī refers to rulership or authority.
By the first meaning, it refers to the final stage (of the path); by the second meaning, it is a worldly warning or threat.
