وَإِذَا سَمِعُوا 292 الأنعام

وَهُوَ الَّذِي جَعَلَ لَكُمُ النُّجُومَ لِتَهْتَدُوا بِهَا فِي ظُلُمَاتِ الْبَرِّ وَالْبَحْرِ قَدْ فَصَّلْنَا الْآيَاتِ لِقَوْمٍ يَعْلَمُونَ ﴿۹۷﴾ وَهُوَ الَّذِي أَنْشَأَكُمْ مِنْ نَفْسٍ وَاحِدَةٍ فَمُسْتَقَرٌّ وَمُسْتَوْدَعٌ قَدْ فَصَّلْنَا الْآيَاتِ لِقَوْمٍ يَفْقَهُونَ ﴿۹۸﴾

﴾97﴿ Wa Huwal lazee ja'ala lakumun nujooma litahtadoo bihaa fee zulumaatil barri walbahr; qad fassalnal Aayaati liqawminy ya'lamoon
﴾98﴿ Wa huwal lazeee ansha akum min nafsinw waahidatin famustaqarrunw wa mustawda'; qad fassalnal Aayaati liqaw miny-yafqahoon

﴾97﴿ And it is Allah alone—He who created for you the stars so that you may be guided by them in the darknesses of the land and the sea. Indeed, We have explained the signs in detail for a people who know.
﴾98﴿ And it is Allah alone—He who created you from a single soul, then (for you) there is a place of dwelling and a place of storage. Indeed, We have explained the signs in detail for a people who understand.

[97] This is another rational argument, and the sun and moon are mentioned separately because their benefits differ greatly.
(لِتَهْتَدُوا) — one of their benefits is mentioned here: using them for guidance (like navigating directions).
Two other benefits are also known, as mentioned in verse 5 of Surah Al-Mulk: for the adornment of the sky and as missiles against devils.
(فَصَّلْنَا) — means that Allah has explained, clarified, and detailed things separately and clearly.
(يَعْلَمُونَ) — refers to those who possess the knowledge of how to derive reasoning and take lessons (i.e., those capable of understanding through reflection).
[98] This is another rational, inward (anfusi) proof.
(فَمُسْتَقَرٌّ) — has multiple meanings:
1. The father's loins (place of sperm origin),
2. The cycle of the day (daytime as a stable phase),
3. Life in this world (as a temporary but settled phase).
(مُسْتَوْدَعٌ) — also includes:
4. The mother’s womb (as the place where the seed is deposited),
5. The resting place of the night (as a time of withdrawal),
6. The soul’s placement in the Barzakh (the intermediate realm after death).
These words encompass all these meanings.
Since understanding this requires a degree of knowledge, the verse uses (يَفْقَهُونَ) — indicating deep comprehension.
The creation of all humans originates from one father, Adam (peace be upon him), and recognizing the details of mustaqarr (settling) and mustawda‘ (depositing) requires precise knowledge, which is referred to as fiqh (deep understanding).
