﴾37﴿ So her Lord accepted her with a good acceptance and nurtured her with a good nurturing, and entrusted her to Zakariya (peace be upon him). Whenever Zakariya (peace be upon him) entered upon Maryam in the place of worship, he found provision with her. He said, “O Maryam, where does this provision come from for you?” She said, “It is from Allah.” Surely, Allah provides for whomever He wills without measure.
﴾38﴿ For this reason, Zakariya (peace be upon him) prayed to his Lord and said, “O my Lord, grant me from Yourself a pure child; surely You are the One who responds to prayer.”
﴾39﴿ Then the angels called out to him while he was standing in prayer in the sanctuary: “Indeed, Allah gives you glad tidings of Yahya (John), who will confirm the Word of Allah, and he will be a leader, chaste, a prophet from among the righteous.”

[37] In this verse, the virtue of Maryam is mentioned in five ways.
Good acceptance, meaning being chosen for the religion.
Good upbringing.
Being cared for by Zakariya (peace be upon him).
Provision coming to her without apparent means, which is a sign of nobility for the friends of Allah and a miracle for the prophets.
Her knowledge, as she attributed her provision to Allah and did not claim perfection for herself.
Note: The term "mihrab" refers to the place of worship for the leader of the community, and in the religion of Bani Israel, this was permissible.
The mihrabs in our mosques today are not meant here; this practice arose in the time of the successors and hadith scholars, but for this, it is called an innovation in means for something else, and it is allowed as long as it is not believed to have intrinsic reward.
[38] In this, the humility of Zakariya (peace be upon him) is mentioned.
Asking for a child is sought only from Allah, because He is the Creator of children and the Knower of the unseen, as shown by Zakariya (peace be upon him) asking for a sign.
“There” means when Zakariya (peace be upon him) realized that there was no male child in the house of Imran (peace be upon him) and also not in his own house, and that a male child was needed for the spread of the religion, so he prayed for a son.
“There” here means “for this reason.”
“Surely, You are the One who responds to prayer” is a means used in this supplication, mentioning one of the attributes of Allah.
[39] By “a word from Allah” (بِكَلِمَةٍ مِنَ اللَّهِ), it may mean that he (Yahya) will be a confirmer of the message of divine oneness (tawḥīd), or it could refer to ‘Isa (peace be upon him), whom Yahya will affirm.
“Sayyidan” (سَيِّدًا) refers to someone in whom noble and virtuous qualities are gathered.
“Ḥaṣūran” (حَصُورًا) means someone who restrains himself from sin, or it may mean that he will not marry—this being a particular feature of his faith, whereas the sunnah of our Prophet (May Allah bless him and give him peace) is to marry.
According to the Gospel, he is known as John (Yūḥannā), the cousin of ‘Isa (peace be upon him), and he was six months older than him.
